Moscow and Bangkok signed a cooperation program

The 2018-2020 programme of cooperation between the capitals of Russia and Thailand was signed today by the Moscow Government Minister and Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow Sergey Cheryomin and Deputy Governor of Bangkok Wanvilai Promlakano. The grand ceremony took place in Lumpini Park and marked the beginning of Days of Moscow Culture in Bangkok.

"The relations between the two capitals turned 20 this year," Sergey Cheryomin said. "Despite the political turmoil in the world, Moscow and Bangkok have always remained good friends. It is gratifying to know that our previous cooperation programme did not remain on paper. The Thai festival is being held in Moscow as part of this programme. Cultural exchanges and business interaction have gained momentum. Not only the Russian tourist flow to Thailand is growing, but Thai tourists are now visiting the Russian capital in greater numbers as well." He also noted that the government of Thailand and the Bangkok Administration pay great attention to creating a favourable investment climate, which draws in businesses from all over the world.

"The programme that we signed is designed to give a new impetus to cooperation between Moscow and Bangkok, because our megacities are very much alike and the challenges that we face are very similar, which means that we will join our efforts for the benefit of our respective nations. People's diplomacy and business cooperation are a basis of productive and long-term ties between Moscow and Bangkok, and cooperation between our cities will serve as a solid foundation for cooperation between the countries," Sergey Cheryomin said in closing.

Deputy Governor of Bangkok Wanvilai Promlakano also expressed hope for further strengthening of cooperation and thanked the Moscow delegation for bringing a festive event to Bangkok. She said that she visited Moscow several months ago to attend the festival of Thai culture and was very happy with the warm reception that the Muscovites accorded to their guests from Thailand.

The new programme of cooperation implies the exchange of experience and information in the sphere of urban planning, housing and utilities, urban improvement, modern techniques for recycling household rubbish and industrial waste, cooperation in the sphere of traffic and parking space management, and the development of mass transit. The parties agreed to establish direct cooperation between the technology parks of Moscow and the research centres of Bangkok. Close attention will be paid to promoting partnership between the educational institutions of the capitals and advanced training of teachers, as well as expanding cooperation in the sphere of healthcare, social protection, tourism and environmental protection.
